Canada Geese

General Information

A goose’s head and neck are primarily black, but the bottom area of its head is white. It has a cream/white breast and a brown back. It is not difficult to tell whether or not a bird is a Canada Goose (these animals are literally everywhere).

Their nests are built on the land, generally on slightly raised surfaces, near a source of water. The females incubate the eggs, and the males, to whom the females usually mate and stay with for life, guard the nests. Their diets consist of grasses, sedges, berries, and seeds. They may also dabble their heads into the water to eat underwater vegetation.

When threatened, Canada Geese may hiss, honk, vibrate their neck feathers, or pump their heads.

Canada Geese at the Boneyard

Because Canada Geese tend to live in grassy areas near bodies of water, they are one of the most, if not the most, commonly spotted animals at the Boneyard. Don't get too close to them or they will attack you.
